ABOUT

junior x-cite tennis league

We are a group of passionate parents, coaches and tennis academies who wants to create opportunities for our children and students to thrive in tennis and in their lives, especially through tennis tournaments.

The tournament name include the following two words:

  1. X-Cite – which we want the youth to be “eXcited” about their life and given opportunities  to discover and blossom their X-factor talents and qualities.

  2. League – the word originally meant the distance a person could walk in an hour.  We wanted to create this tennis league to give the youth the opportunity to see how far they could reach and improve.

ABOUT
About (viet)

Why take part in tennis tournaments?

There are no other sport that provides the same level of mental benefits as tennis.  Exercise in general benefits the mind and body.  Tennis is a strategy game and it requires a high level of both physical AND mental strength and agility.  While it is fun, it requires quick reflexes, physical agility, rapid mental response and strategic thinking.

Going for tennis classes is different than going for tennis tournaments. Tennis tournaments will help the players to sharpen their skills, be braver in taking risk, learning to manage stress and toughen their mental states.  Players are required to keep on their toes physically and mentally.  Players learning to keep their head in the game will help them stay more alert.

However, please bear in mind it takes time to improve.

Frequently asked questions

There is no correct and wrong answer for this.  We would recommend the players to have at least 10-12 foundation tennis classes so that they are at least familiar with the game.

Also, players does not need to be trained until they are technically professional before they could take part in the tournaments.  Tournaments are also the learning ground of players.

If still unsure, please speak with your coaches.

No. You are NOT allowed to coach, give instructions  and make line calls during matches. We need to give players room for self-improvement.  Isn’t that what you want as well i.e. our children to take initiative to self-improve?  During matches, the players needs to figure out and adapting their games to their opponent games.

For controlling parents, thank you for signing up your child for this tournament.  This would also give you opportunity to learn to be less controlling and let your child to bloom by themselves during matches.

We want to give your child the opportunity to learn to pick after themselves and be independence. At the same time, this give us the opportunity to save cost to cover additional court rentals as our tournament formats provides more match playing opportunities for your child.

We want to give opportunities for less advance players to play more matches and be encouraged with their progress in Tier 2.

Coaches and parents are encourage to place their highly advance players/children in higher age group competition (for e.g. U10 plays in U12) for stronger competition and exposure if they find their age group does not give them sufficient exposure.

Could I watch the game inside the tennis court?

No.  You are not allowed to watch the game inside the tennis court.  Tennis court area is strictly reserve for players only.  This is to:

- ensure safety of players and spectators

- reduce interference and stress level of players

My child is new to tennis tournaments, how could I help to support them?

There are many ways you could support your child for e.g.:

  1. Day before tournament, please ensure that your child goes to bed early

  2. Day of tournament, please ensure that you arrive 30 minutes before their matches/starting of events as they need time to settle down and be comfortable with new environment. Bring sun block and light refreshments.

How could we help or volunteer?

We are glad that you asked.  We need help and volunteers as organizing such tournaments requires lots of resources.  You could help by either being a sponsor, introducing sponsors to us, or volunteer your time.  Please write to us and we will contact you accordingly.

Do you know that when you helped out or volunteer, you are setting good examples for your children.  It would have positive impact on their lives and the values that they carry. Your children will be very proud of you too.  Our children do appreciate us leading by examples!

9

After my children has lost in the tournament, how should I talk with them?

This is not an easy answer.  They would definitely want to be encouraged.  Give them empathy for e.g. say “I understand that you are sad as you care for your game.  I am proud of you. You bravery to compete is good enough and it needs to be acknowledged.”

They need time to be by themselves.  Give that space to them.

Also, could you remember when you take your exams during your school days…, you had wished that you had studied this particular topic or you have spent much more time to study for your exam.  Your child would have similar feeling too during the match.  Therefore, instead of saying you should train more, after giving some time for your child to cool down, ask them instead, “Based on today’s match, what three areas you wish you could do better. How do you want daddy and mummy to help you..”  [key point is to help them to take responsibility for their own growth.  It is harder to push a wheel up the hill comparing to those who has the passion to improve]

This tournament is very meaningful for young players to train psychologically, technically, tactically and physically. It also helps coaches and athletes evaluate short-term, long-term training, pre-in-post preparation. In addition, the tournament helps parents to exchange their relationship and develop a passion for tennis.

This is a great opportunity for local young players of all ages and levels to LEVEL-UP their game.  Competition is key to long-lasting improvements.

I was looking for tournaments for my son to play in Hanoi but there are insufficient tournaments.  Taking my son to other countries for matches are not very feasible.  One way to overcome this is to pull as much interested parties as possible to organise regular monthly tournaments for junior players.  Collobrating together, everyone benefitted.
